Experimentation:Black and White Portraiture

These image are from an experimentation shoot. My intentions were to work with black and white and the lighting in the studio, as an idea from the response to Lara Jade's work. Using Aliss as a model again, I wanted to be able to catch the confidence she had within herself- which is why she is leaning her head on her hand to say 'look at me.' This is the concept of fashion photography I tried to focus on in this shoot- confidence. I adjusted the contrast and brightness in the images trying to grain that strong texture and edginess. I experimented with Aliss nude and with a thin strap top to see which one type I preferred because with Fashion Photography the clothes are an importance.

Experimenting with Pop Art effect and merging the model into the background like she is almost lost within the portrait.

This is one image that caught the eye. The composition of the image was done this way because all the strong aspects of the model were captured; hands, shoulders and hair. It gives a feeling of the model is confident in how she looks. I used studio lighting and bleached out the background so it almost swallowed the model, similarly to the response of Lara Jade's photograph. I used a wide depth of field because I wanted the eyes to wander and not focus on one thing in particular. However, if there is something more noticeable it would be the hand and how it's placed neatly under her chin and her head hangs just on top. The hair has a lot of contrast keeping some colour in the black and white filter.

In this image I experimented with including her clothing; the straps from the top she is wearing. I aimed to see different emotions conveyed from the image. However, the only thing that made the image less edgy as the image's without clothing is the contrast and brightness. The colour grey has been used more than white, not giving the background a bleached effect.
